The catching and maintaining a lock of the opponent's head and arm between your legs is a detail that is crucial to ensuring that you can finish the choke while dealing with the opponent's defensive reactions. If you do not get a good catch, the opponent will posture and throw your leg off him to pass your guard. If you do not properly address his posture, his angling movement, or his stacking defense, you will not be able to keep the choke hold for very long.
