All VR Jiu Jitsu Instructionals
VR Jiu-Jitsu's head coach is Van Robertson, a first-degree Black Belt under Pedro Fernandes of Tu Kaha Jiu-Jitsu in Auckland.
Van has been teaching Jiu Jitsu over a decade, and is now bringing her style of teaching online for anyone who wishes to supplement their current learning of the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
VR Jiu Jitu is an official team affiliate of Tu Kaha Jiu-Jitsu, and VRJJ members often cross train with other Tu Kaha affiliate members to broaden their training experience.
All footage is recorded live in actual classes. New videos are posted weekly. Audio quality may vary due to background noises within the gym.

S Mount Armbar setup from Papercutter grips
When you have the Papercutter choke grips, you can trap the opponent's far elbow when he lifts his arm to defend the choke. Then you can move into S Mount and finish the armbar.

Gold Chain Armbar setup from Papercutter grips
When you have the papercutter grips, you can choose to set up the Gold Chain Armbar by lifting him on his side and stepping over his body.

Papercutter Choke entry from North South
When you want to hide the set up for the Papercutter choke, you can move to the North South position and get your grips. Then move lift opponent and drop to side control for the finish.

SLX Switch to Sweep to Footlock
This is a drill for switching Single Leg X leg position from one leg to the other, and then finishing with a sweep and footlock.

Footlock Switch
When you have a Straight Ashi Footlock, and your opponent pops your foot off the hip and hops over your foot, you can grab his other foot and switch your Straight Ashi leg entanglement to attack the other foot.

When opponent has the seated guard, you can perform two variations of the X Pass to pass.

Part 3 of 3. When opponent counters your hand-on-hip X-Pass by using stiff arms on your shoulder, you can circle back in to push his hips flat and then finish the pass with a knee ride.

Part 2 of 3. Variation of X Pass where you place one hand on hip and the other hand on knee. Then move to right angle and place shoulder into his stomach to complete the pass.

Break down the Reverse De La Riva Guard to X Pass
When opponent has reverse De La Riva guard, you break it down by removing foot off hip and hand off ankle. Then shuffle towards the center to do a quick standing X Pass.

DLR to Reverse SLX to Sweep and Footlock
From DLR, sit up and get collar grip and pull weight forward so you can put foot on hip and enter a modified X-guard. Then do a sweep straight into the straight footlock.

Estima Lock from Knee Shield Half Guard with Foot on Your Hip
When opponent has knee shield half guard, but uses his foot on your hip, you can shove his foot under your belly and lock in the Estima Lock. Angle to 90 degrees and push hip forward to apply the submission.

Estima Lock from Reverse De La Riva
When opponent has reverse DLR guard, you can shove his foot from your hip to your stomach and trap the blade of his foot under your belly and lock it in with your arms. Angle 90 degrees and push hip in to finish the submission.

Rolling Toe Hold from Reverse De La Riva
When standing up from opponent's knee shield, he is likely to put on the Reverse De La Riva guard. You can roll into the toe hold if you slap on the toe hold and prepare to trap his defending leg before you roll forward into the toe hold.

When inside opponent's knee shield half guard, sit on his bottom leg, wedge your elbow against the back of his top knee and slap on the toe hold.
